The Kaenguru organisation (known as Kaenguru Institute for Disabled Children in South Africa and supported by the Löwenmut initiative in Germany) is a non-profit foundation that provides shelter, care, and support for children living with severe disabilities and life-limiting conditions. Operating primarily in Gauteng, South Africa, the organisation creates a safe, nurturing environment to ensure these vulnerable young people receive comprehensive pedagogical care, holistic medical attention, and dignity. Through local employment, sustainable projects, and community engagement, it works to empower individuals with special needs and improve their long-term quality of life.

What They Do

Children's Hospice

Provides 24/7 residential and palliative care for children with severe disabilities. It delivers medical support, physical therapy, and daily assistance in a safe setting. This facility ensures vulnerable youth receive loving care and dignity.

Inclusive Preschool

Offers early education and sensory stimulation to both disabled and non-disabled children. It encourages social integration and developmental growth through structured play and learning. The preschool helps break down social barriers from an early age.

Accessible Vegetable Garden

Features raised beds designed specifically for wheelchair-bound residents. It yields fresh food for the hospice while providing hands-on agricultural activity. The garden teaches basic farming skills and promotes sensory engagement outdoors.

Therapeutic Animal Farm
